History

Our story may not be a long one, but we’ve certainly been busy in the last six or seven years. Here are some of our key milestones:

• 12th August 2003 - Darwin Airline is officially born!
• A group of pilots and air transportation experts, financially supported by visionary entrepreneurs, start working under the name Darwin Airline; a name that underlines our desire to evolve and our ability to adapt to the changing market.
• 7th July 2004 - Demo Flight. The FOCA says yes.
• The authorities arrive to test our capacity to deal with various and unexpected scenarios. All is fine: Darwin Airline is ready to fly!
• 21st July 2004 - Darwin Airline reveals its cards
• Almost a year after launching, the company is unveiled to the public at a press conference at the Splendide Royal Hotel in Lugano. Finally, the engines are running!
• 27th July 2004 - Big celebration day: the first SAAB 2000 arrives
• It’s party time in Agno: the first SAAB 2000 lands at Lugano and is christened “Insubria” a couple of days later.
• 27th July 2004 - The airport obtains the Circling 19 standard procedure
• The airport obtains Circling 19 approach procedure from the Federal Office for Civil Aviation, allowing the SAAB 2000 to be operated out of Lugano-Agno.
• 28th July 2004 – En-route to Geneva for the first time!
• Everybody at Darwin Airline is delighted as the first flight takes us to Geneva. Among other destinations, we also head to Olbia in the summer of 2004.
• 2nd September 2004 - Arrival of the second aircraft
• With the introduction of a second SAAB 2000, christened "Ticino", Darwin Airline widens its route network by flying to Rome, starting September 6th.
• 21st February 2005 - New connections
• Rome is finally connected to Bern, which is an absolute first. We also establish important connections between Bern and London plus Lugano and London.
• 27th of March 2005 - The world in one click
• Darwin Airline joins the "CRS" - Computer Reservation System - Galileo and Amadeus; from this moment on, we are seen in more than 65,000 travel agencies worldwide.
