History

The airline was established in April 1992 and started operations on August 24, 1992 as a regional Bolivian air carrier. It was created after deregulation of local air transport in Bolivia by a merger of existing charter companies. It was the first Bolivian airline to introduce business class and first class on domestic flights. It plans to extend its international network and has 456 employees (at March 2007).

Steadily growing, AeroSur now operates a large domestic network and offers international flights to Madrid (Spain), So Paulo (Brazil), Miami (USA), and Buenos Aires (Argentina). When Lloyd Aereo Boliviano (LAB) ceased operations, it became the largest airline in the country. In 2004 AeroSur had also begun scheduling nostalgic flights on a Douglas Super DC-3 to popular tourist destinations like Salar De Uyuni (home of the salt flats) and Rurrenabaque. Since June 2008, AeroSur has operated the Santa Cruz-Miami-Santa Cruz route with a Boeing 727 via La Havana.
