History

The air company "Airzena" was founded in September 1993 and primarily operated charter flights to China, Egypt and other countries.

On November 1st, 1999 the merger of "Airzena" and "Air Georgia" resulted in the foundation of "Airzena Georgian Airlines". It became the biggest air company in Georgia and was assigned a flag carrier status.

In the first half of 2000, a decision was made to renew Soviet technology fleet and lease two BOEING 737-500 aircraft from Hapag-Lloyd. This was the first time that Georgia had operated Western technology aircraft.

On October 1st, 2004 the air company changed its name into "Georgian Airways".

In September 2007 three new   CRJ-100 aircraft were added to the fleet. In the near future, the airline plans to purchase new aircraft. Georgian Airways is a private air company headed by a Chairman of Directors' Board (Tamaz Gaiashvili) with juridical status of LTD.
